Striving to be the best, by Sifa

Hello, this is Sifa and I am writing this blog about how  I am doing in class eight.
All is well and I am doing good things that will make me perform well  in the KCPE exams at the end of the year.
I am trying very hard,  asking many questions when there is something I do not know.
And one of the things we are learning in class eight is about the human body.
Our class 8 teacher is Mr. Isaac Luvonga.  The subjects which he teaches us are maths and science.
Not only  do we learn science and maths but also we learn Kiswahili which we are taught by Mr. Mdachi, English which we are taught by Md M ilika, C.R.E by Mr.Mdachi, social by Md Nelly.
In class 8, we  are needed to be in school by 6.30am and 6pm  is the time we depart to go to our respective homes.
We really enjoy learning and we are working very hard so as to lead in KCPE and for Hayward’s Happy House School to be the best of all.

Oh Baby!

Sitting pretty ... the two youngest members of our family.
Babies Nicholas and Elizabeth are thriving with our love and care and growing up fast.
Elizabeth, who is eight months old, and Nicholas, six months, are now sitting up on their own and when given support are putting weight on their feet and, says Uncle Ronald, "can even bounce".
We always need more sponsors for our children. It costs £20 a month to sponsor a child and help to change a young life for the better. To find out more contact: elizabethgomm@childrenofwatamu.net

Lobbying for a better deal

Mama Sue was delighted to host a meeting of the the Charitable Children's Institutions network yesterday.
Representatives from local children's homes meet regularly to work together to enhance and improve the services they provide to the children in their care.
High on yesterday's agenda was a plan to lobby the County Government  to call for more support  for CCIs and and to ensure that any funds in the devolved system  earmarked for children are used appropriately.
Uncle Billy said: "Mama has been trying hard to reach our local MP but to no avail. Today, we have made an official approach to the Governor for a meeting to discuss three  key components which are the most challenging for all the homes - meeting daily basic needs, education and proper health care for the children.
We hope for a positive response.''

David does the honours

Lucky Lily had a very special young man to do the honours of presenting her birthday gift.
Always a little star, David, five, was asked to do the handover and took the responsibility very seriously.
Lily, who has been in in our family since 2010, is celebrating her 11th birthday and all the family joined in greeting at this week's Kidz Club.

A parting gesture of kindness

Peter Niblock's colleagues wanted to chip in to buy him a parting gift as he was leaving his role at Easyfit/Winlock, Telford.
Pete , who worked there for six and a half years, asked for donations to support the Happy House instead of a gift.
And on his final day there last week he received £200 which he has passed on to us.
Evans
Peter and his wife Linda have been long time supporters of our charity's work and are in Evans' sponsor family.
" I would like to thank my ex-colleagues for raising £200 for the amazing Happy House, we have visited this fantastic place and seen first hand how the children benefit," he said.
Thank you Peter for making this very kind gesture, and thank you to all his colleagues - every penny will be used to make life better and brighter for the children in our care.

Tee time for secondary school

Our secondary students are sporting a new look.
They have signature tee-shirts to single them out from the kids in our lower schools who wear a mix of coloured tee shirts on PE days.
And Mama's colour choice is a bright yellow - much like the colour of the cheerful weaver birds that are such a part of the local wildlife scene.
Just as they are such industrious little birds, our students are very hard workers too!
Good choice, Mama,  everyone does look smart.
