Show brings school year to a close

The curtain came down on the 2017 school year, with a closing day celebration of talent.

Every child from pre-schoolers to primary had a part to play and played it perfectly in more than two hours of verse, drama, song and dance.
From the raising of the flags of Kenya and the UK to the accompanying national anthems to start the morning, the programme ran with military precision as class by class the kids presented their own showpiece.
There were songs in both English and Kswahili, traditional and modern dances and playlets by KG3s who performed adaptations of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the Three Little Pigs.
The audience of parents, relatives, guardians and friends were delighted by the children's efforts.
The entertainment finished with a spectacular display by our acrobats with some breathtaking feats of balance and tumbling.
During the morning Mama Sue addressed the assembly and explained to parents and guardians just how very hard she and her team both at Happy House and those volunteering in the UK work on behalf of the kids.
She explained her plan to build much needed additional classrooms over the next few weeks and appealed to those who could afford to make a small donation towards the build to do so.
"If you have some mangoes you could give us, that mangoes we don't have to buy to feed the child and would help us. Or a few makuti  tiles, a bag of sand, anything you can give will be something we don't have to buy."
She told them, with headteacher Mr Isaac translating,  that educating children was a joint responsibility.
Mama Sue also thanked the volunteers, from the UK, Europe and further afield,  who give up their time to assist in our school.
She announced that all the KCPE candidates had passed their examination and that Happy House was top in the education zone.
Then came the graduation of the KG3 children who are going up into their first year primary in January  (we'll have a special blog on this later in the week).
The morning came to an end with the presentation of certificates to best performing and most improved pupils, it was lovely to see how kids living in the care of our Happy house ran straight up to a proud Mama Sue to show her their awards, and to the best and most improved classes.
Class 2 emerged the best class in lower primary while class 4 was the the best class in upper primary. Form 2 was the best class in secondary section while class 7 emerged the most improved class overall. Papa Dave presented the awards.
The whole morning was a huge success and the children and staff deserved the resounding applause they received.
