Here she talks about how she will strive for her goals, just as Mama Sue always encouraged.

MAMA SUE MEMORIAL FUND

 We have launched a memorial fund to honour our inspirational Mama Sue, founder of Children of Watamu and Happy House.

Since her sudden, and heartbreaking, passing two weeks ago we have received hundreds of wonderful and affectionate tributes to Sue.

They mean so much to her beloved husband, our Papa Dave, and to all the Happy House family.

Quite a number of people have asked about a memorial fund and we have, with Papa's blessing, decided to launch one.

The last year and half has been a struggle with fundraising pretty much at a standstill because of the pandemic so every penny donated will be a huge help.

We hope you may want to make a donation and that, maybe, some of the organisations that have fundraised for us in the past may want to hold a fundraising event in support of Happy House in memory of Mama Sue.

Whatever, every penny will make a difference to the lives of children.

Making the grade

Last term's pre-primary graduates are now settling in to their first weekin Happy house Primary School's Grade 1. And the person charged with getting them used to their new class and lessons is their teacher Madam Mercy.

New school for Oscar

Oscar is really excited to be embarking on a new stage of his life this week. Here Oscar, who has grown up at Happy House, tells us how much he wants to be at high school meeting new people and studying new things. While travelling out to school will be a whole change of environment for Oscar he will always have his Happy House home to return to each day.

Mama Sue Memorial Fund launched

Today, we launch a memorial fund to honour our inspirational Mama Sue, founder of Children of Watamu and Happy House.

Since her sudden, and heartbreaking, passing two weeks ago we have received hundreds of wonderful and affectionate tributes to Sue.

They mean so much to her beloved husband, our Papa Dave, and to all the Happy House family.

Quite a number of people have asked about a memorial fund and we have, with Papa's blessing, decided to launch one today.

The last year and half has been a struggle with fundraising pretty much at a standstill because of the pandemic so every penny donated will be a huge help.

We have 58 children living in our care, that's one big family to support.

We feel a Memorial Fund is appropriate.

Mama Sue devoted 21 years of her life transforming the lives of children in need in Kenya.

She and Papa Dave gave up their lives in the UK in 2010, when the Happy House opened, to live in Kenya and direct the Happy House children's home and school.

Mama was an exceptional woman. She was determined and driven and refused to compromise saying "Every child, regardless of background, deserves the best."

That's what the gave them and what we will continue to give them - now and in the future.

We can only do this with your love, your support and your donations.

Lucky's day

When a member of Lucky's sponsor family sent a gift for him - it was lucky for everyone. 

They sent the donation so that Lucky could pick a treat to share with the all this brothers and sisters as Papa Dave tells us. 

At Kidz Club they had watermelon which was bought with the money, as were apples which were given to everyone earlier.

Mama's garden

A little garden with plants spelling out the name "Mama Sue" is where all our Happy house family can go to think about and talk to the person who has such a special place in their hearts.

For Papa Dave especially, it a place of love and solace.

The children were there with Mama's adored Papa Dave when he paced fresh yellow roses at the head of the garden. 

Yellow roses hold special significance as they were always Mama's favourite flowers.

Greeting visitors from Belgium

On Saturday, Papa and the family were happy to greet visitors from Belgium.

The Happy House always welcomes new faces and to show them around our wonderful home and school but since March last year, the start of the pandemic, international visitors have been few.

These guests had heard about the good work we are doing and brought with them two cases of clothes for our children - much needed as our store cupboard is running low in so many areas.
